Piddle, Twiddle, and resolve
1.) I generally think that I am a relatively brand-unconscious person. Recently, however, I have noticed that I have drawn myself into a particular logo, that I want it printed on my laptop, my desktop, my clothes, my very mind has taken on the colors of this brand.
That brand is Ubuntu.
I didn’t think about it before, because I thought of the kind folks at Canonical as “my friends on the internet” who send me cool stuff that I can use, and do not expect, but thoroughly appreciate, when I give back. It’s a homey human connection I have through my computer with these guys, and that’s why on each of the three computers I own, I proudly display the straight Ubuntu Human theme, have (or will) re-branded them to show the Ubuntu logo on the case, and have on occasion considered an Ubuntu iron-on patch for my laptop bag.
I am extremely brand conscious. I just don’t like paying for brands. That’s a bit more accurate. Still not wholly accurate, but it’ll do.
2.) Google makes people afraid because, beyond being large, it is inexplicably so. It has the golden touch, and nobody can figure out how it seems to turn everything–everything–into money for its engineers to play with. Eventually, and this is the root of all our (or at least my) as yet ungrounded fear, they might touch the wrong thing.
3.) Brownie sandwiches consist of a cookie placed on top of a brownie, placed on top of another cookie. Chocolate-chip cookies preferred. Chocolate frosting on the brownie can be used as a condiment.
